The NPR reporter says, “We’ve got another shooting. This time in Fort Worth, Texas.”
My first reaction is the expected sadness, but then I find myself struck by how he said it. There’s the inevitability conveyed, the resignation in his voice. He only lets a touch of emotion into his words, but it’s enough to show how he feels.
But really, it’s the very opening of the statement that stays with me. Those first two words.
We’ve got.
We, America. Got, have, own. We own this.
